The Bioscape Pressurised Pond Filter Unit UV 13500 (BIS585) is an external, multi-stage filter system for ponds with an integrated ultraviolet (UV-C) clarifier designed to provide crystal clear water. It offers mechanical, biological, and UV filtration to remove solid impurities and control algae. 
  • Pond Volume Capacity: Up to 13,500 litres (for an ornamental pond with no fish/light stock)
  • Filtration Stages: Three-stage filtration (mechanical, biological, and UV-C)
  • UV-C Power: 24 Watts. The UV light causes single-celled algae to clump together so the filter media can trap them
  • Filter Media Included: Phenol-free sponges (multiple layers) and biological media (polystyrene balls)
  • Installation: Designed for external use and can be partially buried in the ground up to the lid
  • Features: Includes an indicator to show when cleaning is needed and a backwash function for easy maintenance without opening the canister.
Operation and Maintenance
The filter works by routing water through different media: 
  1. Mechanical Filtration: Water passes through three layers of sponges with varying densities to trap solid debris.
  2. Biological Filtration: The biological media (bio-balls) provide a large surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow, which break down biological pollutants.
  3. UV Sterilization: An integrated 24W UV-C lamp zaps the water to eliminate algae blooms, diseases, and harmful bacteria, preventing "green water" issues. 
For maintenance, the unit features a 'Reverse Clean' or backwash system. You simply turn a handle or adjust a valve on the top of the unit to redirect water flow, which flushes trapped debris out a separate waste outlet without requiring you to manually remove and clean the filter media. UV bulbs typically need replacing every 6 to 12 months to maintain their effectiveness.
